NHMC Statements of Faith

We Believe . . . As from the Bylaws

SECTION 3. HOLY BIBLE. The Holy Bible, comprised of both the Old Testament (Tanakh) and the New Testament (Apostolic Writings), and only the Bible, is the authoritative Word of God. It alone is the final authority for determining all doctrinal truths. ln its original writing, the Bible is inspired, infallible, and inerrant (Proverbs 30:5; Romans 16:25-26; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21).

SECTION 4. THE GODHEAD. There is one God, who has revealed Himself as Father, Son (Yeshua), and Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh). These three are coequal and coeternal (Genesis 1:26; Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 3:16-17; 28:19; Luke 1:35; Hebrews 3:7-11; 1 John 5:7).

SECTION 5. YESHUA THE MESSIAH. Yeshua the Messiah is God the Son. On earth, Yeshua was 100 percent God and 100 percent man. He is the only man ever to have lived a sinless life. He was born of a Jewish virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles, died on the cross for humankind and, thus, atoned for our sins through the shedding of His blood. He rose from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures as the firstfruits of the resurrection, promised to Israel as its glorification. He ascended to heaven and was there enthroned at God’s right hand as Israel’s Messiah, with authority extending to the ends of creation (Isaiah 53:4-6; Psalm 110:1; Matthew 28:18; Mark 14:61-62; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Philippians 2:9-11; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1, 14; 20:28; Philippians 2:5-6; 1 Timothy 2:5; 3:16).

SECTION 6. JEWISH VIRGIN BIRTH. In the fullness of time, the Divine Son became a human being—Yeshua the Messiah—born of a Jewish virgin, a true and perfect Israelite, a fitting representative and one-man embodiment of the entire Godhead and the nation of Israel. He lived as a holy tzaddik, fulfilling without blemish the mitzvot of the Torah. He brings to perfection the human expression of the divine image (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18, 23-25; Luke 1:27-35; John 1:14; Galatians 4:4; Hebrews 1:1-4; 4:15).

SECTION 7. REDEMPTION. Humanity was created good and upright, but by voluntary transgression it fell. Humanity’s only hope for redemption is in Yeshua the Messiah, the Son of God (Genesis 1:26-31; 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-21).

SECTION 8. REGENERATION. For anyone to know God, regeneration by the Ruach HaKodesh is absolutely essential (John 6:44, 65).

SECTION 9. SALVATION. We are saved by grace through faith in Yeshua Messiah: His death, burial, and resurrection. Salvation is a gift from God, not a result of our good works or of any human effort (Romans 10:9-10; Acts 16:31; Galatians 2:16; 3:8; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; Hebrews 9:22).

SECTION 10. REPENTANCE. Repentance is the commitment to turn away from sin in every area of our lives and to follow Messiah, which allows us to receive His redemption and to be regenerated by the Ruach HaKodesh. Thus, through repentance we receive forgiveness of sins and appropriate salvation (Acts 2:21; 3:19; 1 John 1:9).

SECTION 11. SANCTIFICATION. Sanctification is the ongoing process of yielding to God’s Word and His Ruach in order to complete the development of Messiah’s character in us. It is through the present ministry of the Ruach HaKodesh and the Word of God that the messianic believer is enabled to live a godly life (Romans 8:29; 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 3:18; 6:14-18; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; 5:23; 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3; Hebrews 2:11).

SECTION 12. YESHUA’S BLOOD. The blood of Yeshua the Messiah shed on the cross was sinless and is 100 percent sufficient to cleanse humankind from all sin. Yeshua allowed Himself to be punished for both our sinfulness and our sins, enabling all those who believe on Him as the Messiah to be free from the penalty of sin, which is death (John 1:29; Romans 3:10-12, 23; 5:9; Colossians 1:20; 1 John 1:7; Revelation 1:5; 5:9).

SECTION 13. YESHUA THE MESSIAH INDWELLS ALL BELIEVERS. Messianic believers are people who have invited Adonai, Yeshua the Messiah to come and live inside of them by His Ruach HaKodesh. They relinquish the authority of their lives over to Him, thus making Yeshua Adonai of their lives as well as Savior. They put their trust in what Yeshua accomplished for them when He died, was buried, and rose again from dead (John 1:12; 14:17, 23; 15:4; Romans 8:1; Revelation 3:20).

SECTION 14. BAPTISM IN THE RUACH HAKODESH. Given at Shavu’ot, the baptism in the Ruach HaKodesh is the promise of the Father. He was sent by Yeshua after His Ascension to empower the Qahal (Ekklesia) to preach the gospel throughout the whole earth (Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 3:11; Mark 16:17; Acts 1:5; 2:1-4, 17, 38-39; 8:14-17; 10:38, 44-47; 11:15-17; 19:1-6).

SECTION 15. THE GIFTS OF THE RUACH HAKODESH. The Ruach HaKodesh is manifested through a variety of spiritual gifts to build and sanctify the Qahal, demonstrate the validity of the Resurrection, and confirm the power of the gospel of the Kingdom. The lists of these gifts in the Bible are not necessarily exhaustive, and the gifts may occur in various combinations. All believers are commanded to earnestly desire the manifestation of the gifts in their lives. These gifts always operate in harmony with the Scriptures and should never be used in violation of biblical parameters (Romans 1:11; 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31; 14:1-40; Ephesians 4:16; 1 Timothy 4:14; 2 Timothy 1:5-16; Hebrews 2:4; 1 Peter 4:10).

SECTION 16. THE QAHAL (EKKLESIA—ASSEMBLY). The Qahal or Ekklesia is the Body of Messiah, the habitation of God through the Ruach, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of Yeshua’s Great Commission. Every person born of the Ruach is an integral part of the Ekklesia as a member of the Body of Believers. There is a spiritual unity of all believers in our Adonai, Yeshua the Messiah, referred to as the One New Man (Matthew 28:18-20; John 17:11, 20-23; Ephesians 1:22; 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23).

SECTION 17. TWO SACRAMENTS.

(a) Mikvah (Water Baptism): Following faith in the Messiah Yeshua, he is commanded by the Word of God to be immersed in water—go through a Mikvah (baptized in water)—in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Ruach HaKodesh (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38).

(b) The Siudat Adonai (Lord’s Supper): A unique time of communion in the presence of God when the elements of bread and wine or grape juice (the body and blood of Yeshua the Messiah) are taken in remembrance of Yeshua’s sacrifice on the cross (Matthew 26:26-29; Mark 16:16; Acts 8:12, 36-38; 10:47-48; 1 Corinthians 10:16; l1:23-26).

SECTION 18. HEALING OF THE SICK. Healing of the sick is illustrated in the life and ministry of Yeshua and included in Yeshua’s commission to His disciples. Healing of the sick is given as a sign that is to follow believers. It is also a part of Yeshua’s work on the cross and one of the gifts of the Ruach (Psalms 103:2-3; Isaiah 53:5; Matthew 8:16-17; Mark 16:17-18; Acts 8:6-7; Romans 11:29; 1 Corinthians 12:9-28; James 5:14-16).

SECTION 19. GOD’S WILL FOR PROVISION. The Father’s will is that believers become whole, healthy, and successful in all areas of life. But because of the Fall, many may not receive the full benefits of God’s will on the earth. That fact, though, should never prevent believers from seeking the full benefits of Messiah’s provision in order to serve others.

(a) Spiritual (John 3:3-11; Romans 10:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21).

(b) Mental and Emotional (Isaiah 26:3; Romans 12:2; Philippians 4:7-8; 2 Timothy 1:7; 2:11).

(c) Physical (Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:17; 1 Peter 2:24).

(d) Financial (Deuteronomy 28:1-14; Joshua 1:8; Psalms 34:10; 84:11; Malachi 3:10-11; Luke 6:38; 2 Corinthians 9:6-10; Philippians 4:19).

SECTION 20. THE RESURRECTION. Yeshua the Messiah was physically resurrected from the dead in a glorified body three, full days (evening and morning) after His death on the cross. Consequently, both those who are saved and those who are lost will experience resurrection. The saved will rise to eternal life, while the lost will face the resurrection of eternal damnation (Luke 24:16, 36-39; John 2:19-21; 20:26-28; 21:4; Acts 24:15; 1 Corinthians 15:42-44; Philippians 1:21-23; 3:21).

SECTION 21. HEAVEN. Heaven is the eternal dwelling place for all believers in the gospel of Yeshua the Messiah and His Kingdom (Matthew 5:3, 12, 20; 6:20; 19:21; 25:34; John 17:24; 2 Corinthians 5:1; Hebrews 11:16; 1 Peter 1:4).

SECTION 22. HELL. After living one life on earth, the unbelievers will be severely judged by God and sent to hell where they will be eternally tormented with the devil and the fallen angels (Matthew 25:41; Mark 9:43-48; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 14:9-11; 20:12-15; 21:8).

SECTION 23. THE SECOND COMING. Yeshua the Messiah will physically and visibly return to earth for the second time to establish His Kingdom. This will occur on a date undisclosed by the Scriptures (Matthew 24:30; 26:63-64; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8; Revelation 1:7).

SECTION 24. MARRIAGE, DIVORCE, AND REMARRIAGE. Marriage is defined in the Scriptures exclusively between a male and a female, man and woman, husband and wife; furthermore, it is a mutual union granted only by God and recognized by God as one flesh, “the two shall become one flesh.” Therefore, we believe that the term ‘marriage’ has only one meaning and that is marriage sanctioned by God which joins one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. Divorce, as understood in the Scriptures, is allowed under certain conditions if the offended party chooses to do so; however, it is also understood that the better route of forgiveness, healing, and restoration is a valid choice and should be considered. Remarriage is also permitted in the Scriptures and is outlined as valid under certain circumstances and it will also not dismiss, diminish, or disqualify one’s calling to serve as a minister among the Body of Believers in any capacity that is offered, including the office of a senior rabbi (Genesis 2:18, 24; Deuteronomy 24:1-4; Proverbs 18:22; Isaiah 62:5; Matthew 5:32; 19:3-12; Mark 10:6-12; Luke 16:18; 1 Corinthians 7:10-16, 39; 11:11; 1 Peter 3:1-7; Ephesians 5:31, 33; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Timothy 3:2).

SECTION 25. SEXUALITY. We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to only occur between a man and a woman who are married to each other. We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman (Proverbs 18:22; Genesis 2:18, 24; 1 Corinthians 6:13, 18; Colossians 3:5; Hebrews 13:4).
